About the Client
Elsevier has become the undisputed market leader in the publication and dissemination of literature covering the broad spectrum of scientific endeavors. Just as the tools used in scientific research are changing, so too are the tools used in scientific communication. Elsevier has taken a leadership role in advancing the technologies necessary to create a seamless electronic information delivery environment.
The Challenge
Elsevier was determined to enhance their medical training offering - The SLS (Simulation Learning System), a complete solution for mannequin-based simulation training for medical professionals. In addition to offering critical thinking in preparation for simulation; realistic simulation scenarios; they needed to add accurate patient charting during simulation with the EMR, a ground-breaking interactive medical record application. This EMR simulator had to be fully-functional to mimic the real-life experience and be built as a truly expandable "platform" to offer editions for many medical disciplines. Also, the EMR app had to fully integrate with the overall SLS and e-learning security. Lastly, the application needed to feature an administration panel for configuration and content management.
The Solution
Roundedcube assisted Elsevier with the conception, design, development and roll-out of a new product component, a fully-functional Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as part of a Simulation Learning System. The Simulation Learning System (SLS) integrates simulation technology into various specialty/profession-specific courses by providing realistic scenarios and supportive learning resources. The fully-functioning EMR allows for simulation exercises that reinforce concepts and application of knowledge.
The Results
The product was also a finalist in the 2009 CODiE Awards for "BEST MEDICAL AND HEALTH INFORMATION PRODUCT"! The product, built on the Microsoft .NET platform, is fully scalable, extendible and allows for product administration and the creation of additional EMRs.
